Two things to know. Most central universities admit undergraduates through CUET-UG. Under the National Education Policy, many universities now offer a four-year honours degree, and you can leave earlier with a certificate or diploma, or take the degree after three years.
Engineering and computing
All B.E. / B.Tech branches take 4 years after 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Choose an AICTE-approved college. Diploma holders can join the second year through lateral entry.

Allied health degrees (hospital technology)
These degrees train the technologists who run dialysis units, operation theatres, labs and scanners, and hospitals in India and the Gulf need them in large numbers. Since 2021 they come under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), which now calls “paramedical” work “allied and healthcare professions”. NCAHP has announced NEET-UG as the entry requirement for many of its bachelor’s courses from the 2026–27 session, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 12th. The rule is being rolled out course by course, so check the college’s current notice.

Paramedical diplomas (shorter route to a hospital job)
Diplomas are the quickest way into hospital work for students who cannot spend four years in college. Most need 12th with science; a few states also run certificate versions after 10th. Study only at an institute approved by your state paramedical or allied health council or the state’s Directorate of Medical Education. A diploma from an unapproved “institute” will not be accepted for registration or for Gulf licensing.

- Work first, study alongside: many degrees can be taken by distance from a UGC-approved open university while you earn.
A warning about short “management” certificates. Many private institutes sell certificates in event, export, hospital or retail management. Some are useful, but many are not recognised by any board. Before paying, check that the course is run by a UGC-recognised university or an AICTE-approved institute. A recognised degree or a government scheme course is usually the safer choice.
