What this field is

Small manufacturing turns raw materials into products people buy again and again. Food units need hygiene and FSSAI registration; other units need quality and reliable supply.

Start small, sell locally, prove demand, then grow.

It suits you if:

  • Your family already makes a product people like.
  • You are organised and careful about quality.
  • You want to employ others in time.

About subsidies linked to loans: PMFME’s subsidy is tied to a bank loan. Consider the Islamic position on interest and ask a scholar you trust; many small units begin from savings or a halal partnership instead.

How to start

  1. Choose one product you can make well and consistently.
  2. Test it with 20–30 customers and note what they say.
  3. Work out your cost per unit and a fair price.
  4. Register on Udyam; for food, register with FSSAI.
  5. Design simple, honest packaging with weight, date and contact.
  6. Sell locally first, then to shops and online.

Where it can lead

  1. Home unit
  2. Small workshop with 2–5 workers
  3. Registered brand supplying shops
  4. Factory with distributors

Quality and honesty

  • Never compromise on hygiene or weights.
  • Never mislabel ingredients or dates.
  • Never expand on borrowed money before demand is proven.
