Get a Job

Get a job: start here

You do not need an agent or money to get a good job. You need one skill, your papers ready, and the right places to look. Follow these five steps, one at a time.

Five steps to your first job

StepWhat to doHelp on this site
1. Learn one skillEmployers hire a skill, not only a certificate. A short ITI trade, a free training scheme or an apprenticeship turns “any job” into “I am an electrician helper”.Pathways, Schemes
2. Get your papers readyAadhaar, your own bank account, mark sheets and certificates in DigiLocker, and a one-page CV.Interviews and CVs, Digital basics
3. Look in safe placesStart with training-linked placement, apprenticeships and government job fairs. See the list below.Where to look
4. Check the companyReal workplace, written offer, PF and ESI paid, no money asked from you.Check the company
5. Keep it and growTreat the first job as a stepping stone. After 6 to 12 months, move up with experience.Workplace habits

Papers to keep ready

Identity and bank

Aadhaar, PAN card if you have one, and a bank account in your own name. Wages and stipends are paid into your bank, never into someone else’s.

Certificates and CV

Mark sheets, ITI or course certificates, and a one-page CV. Keep scans in DigiLocker and printed copies in a folder.

Job portals

Register on the National Career Service portal (ncs.gov.in) for job fair notices, and on the apprenticeship portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in).

Once you have worked anywhere, you get a UAN number for your Provident Fund (PF). Keep it safe: it follows you from job to job.

Where to look, safest first

WhereWhy it is safeHow to start
1. Placement with your trainingThe employer is already known to the ITI or training centre.Ask the placement cell of your ITI, polytechnic or training centre.
2. ApprenticeshipReal registered company, monthly stipend, often a job at the end.Apprenticeships
3. Government job fairs and employment officeEmployers come in person to a government venue.Watch ncs.gov.in and visit your district employment office.
4. Walk in to workplaces near youYou see the workplace and the people yourself.Ask at the HR office or gate of factories, hospitals, hotels and shops near home.
5. Large agencies that charge you nothingThey earn from employers and publish a “no fee from candidates” policy.Apply only on their own website. Recruitment agencies
6. People you trustA relative, teacher or mentor who works there can vouch for the company.Mentors
7. Job apps and websitesUseful, but many posts are fake.Never pay, never share an OTP. Check the company first.

Openings we have checked are on Hiring now. You apply directly to the employer.

Is it a good company? Six checks

  1. It is real: a fixed address and workplace you can visit, and a company or GST registration you can look up online.
  2. The offer is in writing: job role, salary, working hours and place of work, before you join.
  3. PF and ESI are paid: after your first month, check your PF balance with your UAN on the EPFO website or app.
  4. Payslip every month, and wages paid into your bank account.
  5. Safe work: proper safety equipment, and no unpaid “trial period” that never ends.
  6. Ask the workers: people already working there will tell you how the company treats its staff.

Never pay for a job

  • A genuine employer or agency earns from the company, not from you. Any “registration”, “file”, “uniform” or “joining” fee is a warning sign.
  • Never share an OTP, bank PIN or password with anyone offering a job.
  • Never hand over your original certificates or passport. Give copies only.
  • A job with no interview, no test and very high pay is almost always fake.

Which kind of job?

Skilled jobs

Trades in demand after 10th, 12th or ITI.

Government jobs

Central and state posts, chosen by exam and merit.

Professional jobs

Careers after a degree or professional course.

Halal earning is worship

The Prophet ﷺ said: “No one has ever eaten better food than what he eats from the work of his own hands.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2072). Your first job, however small, is honourable. Do it well and keep your earning clean.

One skill, papers ready, safe places to look. Start this week.

SkilledMuslim.com is not a recruitment agency and never charges anyone for a job. Do not pay anyone in our name.
