For mentors
One hour a month can change someone’s future
Electricians, nurses, engineers, accountants, business owners — if you have walked the path, you can guide someone who is just starting.
What a mentor does
Guide
Answer questions about your trade or profession: what the work is really like, which course is worth it, and how to get the first job.
Check skill
Watch a learner’s practical test and endorse their skill on their SkilledMuslim profile when they are ready.
Open doors
Where you can, refer a learner you trust to an employer, or take them on as an apprentice in your own business.
Mentor code of conduct
- No money, ever. Mentors never take payment, gifts or favours from learners or their families.
- Safe meetings. Meet online, in groups or in public places. Mentors are matched with learners of the same gender, and learners under 18 are mentored only with a parent present.
- Honest advice. Say what the work really involves, including the hard parts. Never promise a job.
- Privacy. Keep what learners share with you private.
